Urography
Urographic examination is most often perform to reveal the cavity system of the kidneys, the urethra, and the bladder. The location of the kidney stone can be determined accurately. It can be inferred that the kidneys are functioning and how much the stone impedes the flow of urine. Other diseases, such as cancers of the urinary tract or diseases of the surrounding organs, can also be inferred. During urography, the iodinated contrast media is delivered into the bloodstream through the vein (collecting vein) and then excreted by the kidneys into the urinary tract. The X-ray image shows the selection of the contrast media, and as the result of this, the cavity system and urethra. A traditional X-ray is taken at a specific time. This is a time-consuming examination where posture change may be required, and it is sometimes necessary to hold your breath when recording images. The contrast media may cause nausea and vomiting, so the examination should be performed with empty stomach. If you were diagnosed with diabetes and you have to take medication, you are requested to mention before booking an appointment. The developing fetus is particularly susceptible to X-ray damage, so women should be notified of their pregnancy or possibility before the examination. Contrast media may cause an allergic reaction. You will be informed about this before the examination. After reading the prospectus, you can also ask for oral information from our colleagues, and then your consent must be given in written form. Iodine sensitivity should also be reported to the examining physician. Bleeding, skin bleeding and inflammation may occur at the site of the needle puncture.
Contrast media may cause the following: adverse reactions: warm feeling, vasospasm, vein inflammation, vein occlusion. General reactions: nausea, dizziness, feeling hot, nausea, vomiting, rash, watery sores, and coughing, sneezing, shortness of breath, and fast heart beat. Serious reactions: fainting, blood pressure fluctuation, arrhythmia. More serious reactions: agitation, heavy sweating, seizures, laryngitis, asthma attack, pulmonary edema, loss of consciousness, respiratory paralysis, myocardial infarction, coma. Exceptionally rare reactions: cardiac arrest or anaphylactic shock.
