It provides preventive, curative and nursing care for respiratory diseases. Its preventive activity is of a secondary and tertiary type. In the case of conditions with a tendency to respiratory disorders, or in fully developed respiratory and pulmonary diseases it tries to reduce or stop the worsening of the process.

Its curative task focuses on the fully developed diseases. It is used by the primary care or non-pulmonary specialist outpatient clinics especially in cases when the child does not need hospitalization, only a special pulmonological treatment is necessary.

Its responsibility regarding care is healing chronic respiratory diseases, and the therapy of previously hospitalized patients who are not quite healthy but whose therapy can be taken care of in the outpatient clinic in coordination with primary care.

Diseases of special importance are pediatric asthma, cystic fibrosis, respiratory stenosis, allergic respiratory diseases, interstitial pulmonary diseases, paranasal sinus inflammations and all other diseases where primary care and other pediatric special visits need the assistance of the pediatric pulmonologist.
