Patients arriving at the Internal Medicine Clinic, Block A requiring immediate attention are delivered by the Hungarian Ambulance Service to the Outpatient Ward of the Emergency Clinic.
Patients will be seen on the day of arrival without a referral when the family doctor phones in or the lead consultant requests urgent medical attention for the patient, when the patient is a pregnant woman, or when a patient arrives with a histological test result after a tumor surgery. Medical consultation for inpatients of other partner departments of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre is provided by the specialist at the Specialist Outpatient Clinic during working hours if the patient is able to walk there, if however they cannot walk to the outpatient clinic, the appointed internist or the head of the duty team are responsible for the consultation during duty hours.
Patients with nephrological conditions are given the highest priority at the Nephrology specialist consultation if there has been a prior personal discussion (doctor-doctor) and the patient was referred by the family doctor or specialist with urgency for an emergency check-up or treatment, but not needing immediate inpatient care (such as, nephrosis syndrome, reasonably suspected, rapidly progressing glomerulonephritis). Medical consultation for inpatients of the Internal Medical Institute and other partner departments of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre is provided by the specialist in charge of the consultation for the day during working hours and by the appointed nephrologist during duty hours.
