Department of Internal Medicine Block A - Other information related to outpatient care

When hospitalized the patient is requested to bring the doctor’s referral, personal identification documents, medical documents from prior doctors’ visits (previous discharge summaries, test results, etc.) and a list of medications taken on a regular basis.

Patients  will need the following utensils during their hospital stay:

  • toiletries: (towel, soap, a toothbrush and toothpaste, tissue paper, toilet paper),
  • pajamas or nightgown, dressing gown, slippers
  • cutlery: (spoon, fork, knife) paper napkin, cup or glass
  • A locker for street clothes is available in the ward.

Please leave all valuable items at home (such as, jewelry, electric items, etc.) If a patient happens to have valuables, please leave them with the ward nurse or head nurse for safe keeping and receive a signed and dated receipt.
Visiting hours are not regulated since this hospital functions as an open clinic. But in order to ensure undisturbed patient care we recommend that visitors avoid morning (8am-10am) and afternoon (3pm-4pm) rounds if at all possible. In case of a flu epidemic, there will be a notice posted at the entrance of the ward or clinic prohibiting visits.
A patient information leaflet is given by the nurse to every hospitalized patient once admitted to a ward.
If the condition of the patient does not necessitate further hospitalization, the patient is discharged. The attending doctor informs the patient or his or her relative about the planned time of discharge at least 24 hours prior to the release time. If the patient needs transportation home, the patient or a relative must say so the day before the discharge.  The discharge occurs at a time previously agreed on with the attending doctor once the discharge summary is prepared. All patients receive a discharge summary in two copies, and a letter from the hospital about the period of care at the hospital.
