The division with 50 hospital beds (20 acute and 30 rehabilitation beds) has been in operation since 1987 as an independent organizational unit and has been providing care in the current building since 2004. Its task is to provide psychiatric care for patients aged 3 to 18 and we also participate in the training of medical students, residents, specialist candidates, social workers and mental health professionals. This is the only child and adolescent psychiatry division in the Northern Great Plain region, providing care for patients from Hajdú-Bihar, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok counties. Acute emergency admissions are available for Hajdú-Bihar county. We also see patients from the entire area of the country based on pre-scheduled appointment only. The annual patient population is 1,200.
In addition to the diagnosis and treatment of classical child and adolescent psychiatry diseases (depression, anxiety, childhood psychosis, and compulsive disorders), our division’s main profile covers autism, including its diagnosis, individual development and socialization of autistic children, as well as counselling for parents.
We also organize psychotherapy and self-help groups, relaxation trainings, individual and group special needs development, creative therapy, and play therapy for various age groups During school holidays these activities are organized in combination with free-time activities, providing children with a camp-like atmosphere.
Children are accommodated in hospital rooms with four beds each furnished with modern pine furniture on two floors; the shower and toilets are available in the corridor. The department also has 2 gyms, a group room, a dining room, activity rooms, and a playground. With the exception of urgent cases, admission to the division and outpatient examinations at the specialist consultations take place by appointment.
