Its activity is based on effective laws, regulations of specialized authorities, medical guidelines, protocols and methodologies. This includes the prevention of the nosocomial pathogens and the control of infections brought to the hospital from outside. It ensures the protection of the patients, healthcare professionals and visitors from hospital infections. The treatment of the infection also influences pathogens and the clinical conditions triggered (selection of multiresistant pathogens), therefore, antibiotic therapy is also part of infection control.
