Introduction - Internal Medicine Division

Extensive care (appr. 322 patients daily) is provided by all the basic specialties of the discipline of internal medicine. Due to the wide spectrum of inpatient care, the department has 100 active and 4 chronic beds helping partner departments in diagnosis as well as treatment. The infrastructure of the endoscopy laboratory provides a high quality environment, its technological devices meet the current standards. All expected diagnostic and therapeutic interventions can be performed:

  • Upper panendoscopy examination (esophagus, stomach and duodenum); biopsy, hemostasis, polyp removal, placement of feeding tubes (nasojejunal, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy  (PEG)) and of esophagus stents,
  • Colonoscopy examination, biopsy, hemostasis, polyp removal,
  • ERCP (biliary endoscopy) removal of stones from the biliary duct, placement of plastic or metal biliary.

In case of an urgent endoscopy, hemostasis and therapeutic interventions are performed already at the Emergency Unit if possible. After an endoscopy in sedation, patients are taken to the Recovery Room, where they can have rest and their condition is monitored.
The prenatal diabetes care and the insulin pump centre at our specialist practice are widely acknowledged in the country. The kidney care provided in a close partnership with B. Braun’s Artificial Kidney Centre is also exemplary.
