The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Clinic as a regional centre covers the following ambulatory services for outpatients: Gynecology outpatient care, Obstetrics outpatient care, Urogynecology, Infertility, gynecological endocrinology, pediatric gynecology, menopause, menopausal osteoporosis, genetic education, bone densitometry (DEXA scan), fetal heart ultrasound, oncology and screening outpatients.
Gynecology outpatients: Gynecology outpatients offers general gynecological care for patients in the catchment area, and takes care of patients referred from hospitals and polyclinics of the region.
Maternity Outpatient Department: This unit provides general care for the pregnant women of Debrecen and Hajdú-Bihar county and complex care for high-risk pregnant women who are admitted according to the principles of progressive care from the East-Hungary region.
Menopause Specialist Consultation: Hormonal changes in menopause in the affected age group cause physical and/or mental symptoms in the majority of women, which have an impact on quality of life as well. Estrogen deficiency in the long term may cause uro-gynecological (vaginal and urinary tract) complaints, increases in cardiovascular risks (infarction and stroke), increases in osteoporosis and the occurrence of bone fractures. The symptoms are traditionally often concealed, although there are effective solutions for everybody. Specialist consultation provides individualized consultation, risk-assessment and appropriate therapy and continuing care for patients.
Menopausal Osteoporosis Specialist Consultation: One of the most severe consequences of menopause associated with estrogen deficiency is osteoporosis, which leads to old age bone fractures, the most common reason for diseases and mortality. In cooperation with the bone densitometry laboratory we define the extent of osteoporosis, assess the risk and ensure a wide range of individualized therapies making maximum use of the options provided by social security.
Gynecological Endocrinology Specialist consultation: Menstrual disorders and amenorrhea may alert women of several endocrinological abnormalities. The most frequent of these is polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) often associated with obesity and masculine features. Sometimes either the hypophysis or the adrenal gland is dysfunctional, or some rare endocrine diseases or metabolism disorders can be found in the background. The consultation is done by recognized doctors who specialize in gynecology and endocrinology, who provide individualized checkups, therapy and care in cooperation with other specialist consultations and imaging services of the Clinical Centre.
Infertility Specialist Consultation: 10-15% of couples face the problem when despite regular intercourse they still fail to conceive. This specialist consultation provides a wide range of examinations and therapy, if needed. The most frequent causes of infertility include problems with ovulation (anovulation infertility), or disorders of sperm production (male infertility) and therefore other specialist consultations also need to be involved (endocrinology, andrology). A special kind of infertility is caused by recurrent pregnancy loss, which requires a broad range of examinations. The majority of infertility cases can be successfully treated by minimally invasive surgical interventions (endoscopic reproductive surgery), or intrauterine inseminations (IUI). Consultation is available to provide a wide range of appropriate specialists and diagnostic methods.
Endometriosis Specialist Consultation: Endometriosis is a gynecological disorder with a rising incidence rate, mostly caused by the increasing age at which women become pregnant for the first time. On the one hand it is accompanied by pains that make daily life a torture, on the other it is associated with hard to tackle infertility problems. Nowadays several options of medicinal and surgical treatment are available from which the best individualized treatment regimen can be chosen based on the appropriate diagnosis. Utilizing the imaging services of the Clinical Centre, gynecologists specializing in endometriosis provide individualized treatment options.
Pediatric Gynecology Specialist Consultation: Gynecological treatment of children and adolescents require a special attitude, qualifications, and definitely different instruments. Complaints are mostly endocrinological or inflammatory in origin, but it is not uncommon to find some developmental or oncological disorder in the background. Doctors in the outpatient consultation specializing in pediatric gynecology treat girls under 18. This clinic is a country-wide care centre for surgical treatment of malformations of the female genital organs.
Fetal echocardiography consultation: As of September 2014 fetal echocardiography screening has been available for pregnant women. Expecting mothers with a high risk for fetal heart malformations can make an appointment to have an echocardiogram taken in the ultrasound laboratory of the Gynecology Clinic of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre.
Genetic counseling: Apart from genetic counseling, chromosome tests of the lymphocytes of the peripheral hemoculture and prenatal tests requiring invasive sampling are also available in our cytogenetic laboratory.
Oncological and Screening Ambulatory Unit: The unit operates as the outpatient consultation of the Gynecological Oncology Department and covers all areas of gynecological oncology. Based on this principle, patients arriving for cancer screening are taken care of at the specialist consultation, with cytological smears taken and colposcopy performed. According to the applicable rules sampling for a HPV test is also done.
Apart from screening the specialist consultation diagnoses gynecological tumors and precancerous states and performs differential diagnostics of pelvic tumors and sets up therapy plans for these. The unit offers gyneco-oncological consulting for various units of the Clinical Centre and for patients of the region and patients outside the region.
Urogynecology: The aim of the specialist consultation is to cure and follow urogynecological patients of the catchment area of the Clinic in one location, to provide professional support and development for colleagues who are interested in this medical field, and to teach uro-gynecology at a graduate and post-graduate level. The main areas covered are urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and pelvic pain.
