Acute traumatology interventions requiring urgent care are performed continuously after a short preparation and the performance of the necessary laboratory, ECG and X-ray examinations, depending on the urgency of the cases.
In an optimal case, surgeries are preferably carried out for patients on an empty stomach, therefore, during waiting and care we request the patients not to eat and drink. If the surgery is performed with a full stomach, the risk of aspiration and breathing complications is extremely high, therefore, in this case surgery is provided only for the injured requiring immediate care. In this case, the patient requires special preparation and intubation for the intervention.
According to the protocol, before a scheduled surgery, an examination is necessary. The patient has to appear at the anesthesiology outpatient clinic with his/her medical records and previous medical documentation. If the surgery has no contraindications, the patient has to present for admission on the day preceding the day of surgery or in case of same-day surgery, in the morning.
Appointments are provided in a planned way with a computer system, however, due to the nature of traumatology it may occur that due to a prolonged intervention as a result of a higher inflow of newly injured patients, certain surgeries are postponed or cancelled in the schedule. In this case, we try to perform the surgery of these patients the next day. The time of the performance of the surgeries is determined mostly based on medical considerations.
