Cardio-obstetrics

Informations

Cardiological problems during pregnancy may have an impact on the period of pregnancy, method of delivery, the life of the unborn child/children and the mother. Therefore it is essential to consult a cardiologist already in the phase when a pregnancy is planned if the cardiological problem had already been known before the pregnancy, or if cardiovascular problems had developed during prior pregnancies. During the 9 months of the pregnancy and 6 months after delivery patients are recommended to visit the outpatient clinic with the following complaints: high blood pressure, arrhythmias (feeling of rapid heartbeat), chest pain, more swelling of the legs than expected, difficulty breathing, dizziness, loss of consciousness.

During cardiological examinations the following procedures may be done: blood draws, ECG, echocardiography, 24 hour blood pressure and ECG monitoring and exercise tolerance ECG tests. Controlling heart problems during pregnancy contributes to the healthy development of the unborn baby and reduces the complaints of the mother.

Referral is needed. Visits with appointment only.
