Laboratory Medicine - Schedule of tests, test conditions

Specialist referrals and appointments are needed for these procedures except for the Sampling Unit, where no appointment is needed.

The laboratory provides a nationally unique profile in several special diagnostic areas for the examination of certain diseases. More than 18,000 patients have their blood drawn at the Blood Sampling and Diagnostics Unit of Laboratory Medicine per year. For patients with an appointment the units perform breathing tests to diagnose Helicobacter pylori infection, and perspiration-electrolyte analysis to screen cystic fibrosis, a congenital metabolic disorder.  The Hemostasis Diagnostic Unit prepares tests for diagnosing thrombophilia, hemophilia and congenital red blood cell abnormalities in patients coming from all over the country.

Clinical samples are received via an 8.3 km long, closed, underground pneumatic tube postal system–considered unique by both Hungarian and European standards-connecting Laboratory Medicine with all clinical units.
