General Surgery Division - Ward rounds

Morning round with the ward physician: between 7:15 AM and 7:45 AM. Participants: ward physician, head nurse of the unit, nurse on the shift, students preparing for the complex examination.

Presentation and discussion: staff meeting at 7:45 AM every day in the discussion room, with participants including the physicians of the department, head nurse of the department, physicians on the shift or doctors participating in further training, medical students, interns. Led by: Head of Department (chief physician).

Ward round with a chief physician: Once a week, at different units between 7:30 AM and 7:45 AM. Participants: Head of Department (chief physician) and the vice head, ward physician(s), physician(s) on the shift, head nurse of the department, nurse responsible for the unit, ward nurses, medical students, interns, student nurses.

Afternoon round with the ward physician: between 2:30 PM and 3 PM.

Ward rounds in critical care wards: between 7:30 AM and 7:45 AM, and at 2:30 PM. Participants: Head of Department (chief physician), physician on duty, ward physician, anesthesiologist on the shift, critical care nurse on the shift.

The afternoon ward round includes all the inpatients at the division, with special attention to the patients operated on that particular day, new patients and those in the critical care wards. The physician doing the ward round shall sign the Detection Form and the Ward Round Register to confirm that the ward round has been completed as well as the therapy prescribed during the round either verbally or in writing.
