After admission, patients undergo the prescribed lab tests, ECG, chest X-ray and echocardiography examinations. If the patient is declared eligible based on the results of these tests the patient is scheduled for surgery to be performed as soon as possible.
During surgery preparation the appointed surgeon and appointed anesthesiologist personally inform the patient about details of the surgery and general anesthesia, about their potential complications, and then have them sign a patient information sheet and informed consent form and obtain the signature of the patient. The ward nurses inform the patient that before the surgery they must take a shower with liquid antiseptic soap and put on a clean scrub and provide information about other details of hygiene, (such as removal of nail polish, shaving for men). The patient is administered a sedative, a sleeping pill for the night to ensure they have a good rest the night before surgery.
The ward nurses lock away patients’ belongings and valuables; the operating room assistant remove any body hair from the surgical area.
