The dentistry clinics of the University of Debrecen Kenézy Gyula Teaching Hospital provides complex services in Debrecen in primary care and for referred patients, primarily for children but also for the adult population.
Pediatric dentistry is an integral part of school health, providing, as necessary, preventive or therapeutic care. In our work prevention and healing are inseparable. In the area of pediatric dentistry our clinic provides care for special cases referred to them by dental general practitioners and pediatricians. Group screening and treatment of students take place in the dental surgeries responsible for a particular area.
In line with decree no. 26/1997 of the Ministry of Health screening of preschool children takes place once a year, while that of school children, twice a year. Prevention and complex treatment of dental and oral diseases also takes place here. The pediatric dentistry clinic also provides emergency care. The dental emergency at 11 Szent Anna Street also houses the week-end emergency clinic. There are 18 pediatric dentistry, 4 orthodontics, 1 parodontology, 1 oral surgery, 1 pediatric dentistry and 1 dental radiography practices in Debrecen. In Debrecen the first pediatric dentistry surgery began its operation at the clinic at 40 Bethlen Street on 1 October, 1941. The first independent, municipal pediatric dentistry facility was opened at 10-12 Béke Street (now Szent Anna Street) in August 1955. The new modern pediatric dentistry surgery building was inaugurated at 11 Szent Anna Street in 1986. The building has 7 dental chairs complete with oral surgery ER, dental radiography room with OP X-ray. Dental surgeries located in schools were opened continuously to provide dental care for large residential districts: such units were created in the Brassói Secondary Vocational School, ÚNOK, in Vénkerti Elementary School, Kazinczy Elementary School and Gönczy Pál Elementary School in Józsa. Apart from the one at the Dental Clinic, our periodontal consultation clinic is the only one that deals with the most up-to-date treatment of periodontal diseases. As a result of years of dental prevention work the dental condition of children in Debrecen has improved considerably.
