Ophthalmology Clinic - Admission of acute care patients

During working hours one of the specialist consultations is responsible for the acute cases (requiring urgent attention). We receive patients from other Ophthalmology Clinic and those patients who suffer from acute eye diseases (sudden vision loss, strong pain in the eye or severe eye inflammation). If patients are not referred by other institutions, the specialist doctor, working in the emergency outpatient unit, is decided whether the patient's condition is urgent or not. Pre-screening is done at the patient admission.

Emergency treatments are ordered by the doctors. During duty hours it is the doctor working at the duty ambulatory unit (Internal Medicine, Block 1) who decides whether the eye specialist on call needs to be notified.
