It was announced at the Monday press conference held at the Clinical Centre that starting from 1 July, the new organizational unit of the Clinical Centre at the University of Debrecen called the Debrecen Institute of Primary Health Care and Health Promotion operates the on-duty GP service for adults and children, the primary and on-duty dental services, the Health Promotion Office and the Health Visitor Service, and will also take over kindergarten and school health care services as well.
The first gate for a patient to go through is that of primary health care. The establishment of the Institute is a great example of the cooperation between the city of Debrecen and the University. “We are to develop the most transparent and most logical on-duty system possible. A larger area with more highly qualified human resources will ensure that our patients wait less and are better attended to, said Ervin Berényi.
The Head of the Clinical Centre also added that in cooperation with the city of Debrecen they must strengthen the health care services system to ensure that it could meet the challenges brought about by the dynamic development of the city.
In March the Municipal Government of Debrecen decided to hand over the provision of primary health care services to the University, and this decision was adopted by the Senate of the University in April.
Csaba Papp, town councilor, said it was innovative and unique in Hungary to have all the primary health care services of the city operated with a university background.
“It is most stable to entrust two such institutions as the city and the university with our health. We guarantee quality and continuous development”, declared Csaba Papp, who will be serving from 1 July as the appointed Director of the Institute of Primary Health Care and Health Promotion to hirek.unideb.hu.
It was added at the press conference that the Institute would also undertake to provide preventative care for the young. A centre would be formed where children can undergo not only the compulsory screening tests but also special examinations, and can take part in lectures on health promotion and drug prevention.
Starting from 2 July, adult patients will find the on-duty GP at a new location, namely right to the main building of the Clinical Centre, in the left wing of the building formerly hosting the 1st Department of Surgery, now the Department of Medical Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine.
On-duty care is provided in a modern, air-conditioned location, and the residents of Debrecen can benefit from the services of an examining medical team and an on-call medical unit 24 hours a day. If a patient does not require emergency or ambulance care, on-duty care providers may also be called to the patient’s home or they can also be consulted via telephone at 00-36-52-40-40-40.
Children’s on-duty care services will be provided at the old location, that is in the building of the Department of Pediatrics, where a separate on-duty room has been formed. This service is available from 6 pm to 6 am on weekdays, and round the clock at weekends, and also can be contacted via telephone at 00-36-52-416-275.
