Vascular Surgery Clinic - Ward rounds

Morning ward round: The ward doctor, head nurse of the unit, and ward nurse take part in the round headed by the Head of Ward, from 7.30 am to 7.54 am on weekdays. If the Head of Ward is unable to attend, the ward doctor may make the round and then he/she will report back to the Head of Ward. The Head of Ward gleans information on events during duty hours, and based on the examination of patients orders any necessary examinations, interventions, preparations for surgeries on the following day, planned discharges for the day and decides about the assignment of beds for patients scheduled for surgery.

Afternoon round: Weekday afternoons 2– 3 pm according to the Head of Ward’s instructions, with the Head of Ward, ward doctor and ward nurse taking part. Together they assess the day’s test results and based on that implement any necessary modifications.

Professor’s visit: At the wards of the clinic at the time set by the professor - in general at 7.30 in the morning - in daily rotation, with the director of the clinic (or his/her designee if the director is otherwise engaged), Heads of Wards responsible for each unit,  ward doctors,  head nurses of the units and  ward nurses taking part.

ICU round: Rounds in the ICU of the clinic are made according to a preset regulation. The round is led by the head of the anesthesiology department and the lead anesthesiologist on weekdays 7:30-8 am. The duty anesthesiologist of the day before reports on events of the duty hours and then they discuss the tasks for the day. At the next round at 8.30 am the lead anesthesiologist or his/her designee reports on events to the director of the clinic or his/her designee and at this time any further course of the therapy becomes finalized. Other participants of this round are the anesthesiologists of the department, attending doctors of the inpatients of the ICU, the head nurse of the unit and ward nurses. The afternoon round at 3 pm is made similarly, but without the head nurse of the unit. This time the duty team also joins the participants of the morning round.

Duty round: The duty team starts checking the condition of patients at 6 pm and takes any necessary steps. All Heads of Wards make a round or ensure a round is made at their own ward at weekends in the morning hours.
