MR (Magnetic resonance) diagnostics

Informations

Magnetic resonance imaging (MR) is a relatively newly developed method. In a strong, permanent magnetic field, the particle vibrations of the body's tissues are synchronized. During the measurement, the magnetic field changes in a pre-set manner in the examined area, which is why the particle vibrations will be different from each other. This deviation is used by the machine to spatially separate the elements of the examined organ. For imaging, the selected particles must be excited with radio frequency waves. Its wavelength is at the bottom of the eastern URH band at the most frequently used field strength, so it does not have a harmful biological effect. When the excitation ceases, the particles return to their resting position, during which the absorbed radio waves are reradiated. This can be detected with an antenna and takes place at different times and with different parameters for each tissue. The machine measures the time and other parameters of the rearrangement and transforms it into image information. Different tissues behave in different ways, so detailed structural information about organs can be obtained. Many deviations that change the tissue structure of organs can be depicted. These include tumors and their metastases, inflammatory processes, and blood supply disorders. The blood vessels can be imaged very well with this procedure, so a lot of information can be obtained about them without dangerous and unpleasant interventions. During the examination, the patient enters a strong magnetic field - which is harmless to the body. Here, we receive information from the organs by transmitting radio waves falling within the previously mentioned range and by receiving waves emitted from the tissues. Things to do before the examination:

• During the examination, you must not have any metal objects on your body/clothing. You can leave the removed metal objects in a lockable changing room. Please note that we cannot take responsibility for your valuables. If you feel it is necessary, you can bring a change of clothes that does not contain any metal.

• On the day of the MR examination, it is necessary to drink plenty of fluids, and you can take your medications for all types of examinations.

• You must arrive for abdominal examinations on an empty stomach, but liquids can also be consumed in this case.

• For the eye region remove eye make-up before examinations.

• Tell the staff if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or think you might be pregnant.

• Your illness may require you to receive paramagnetic contrast material intravenously during the examination.

In the following cases, please bring laboratory results no older than 1 month, which also include values indicating kidney function (urea, creatinine, GFR): If you are over 65 years old, if you suffer from severe acute or chronic kidney failure, if you have recently had liver -, you have undergone a kidney transplant, or you are awaiting such an operation, as well as in the case of the following underlying diseases: diabetes, hypertension, vascular disease, heart failure, obstructive uropathy or other structural kidney-urinary tract abnormalities, systemic diseases, hereditary kidney disease in the family, in case of taking potentially kidney-damaging drugs (e.g. ACEI/ARB, NSAID, combined pain relievers, cyclosporine, vancomycin, aminoglycosides, cisplatin, when using potentially dangerous drugs excreted through the kidneys; e.g. metformin, fibrates), systemic immune disease, tumor, infection, gout, sarcoidosis, polycystic kidney, Fabry, Alport syndrome. Contrast agent side effects: like all drugs, the contrast agent also causes zhat side effects, which, however, do not occur in everyone. For this reason, we will keep you under observation for half an hour after the administration of the contrast material. Most side effects develop immediately or sometimes with a delay. There is a small risk of developing an allergic reaction to the contrast material. Notify staff immediately if you experience any of the following: difficulty breathing due to swelling of the face, mouth, or throat, difficulty swallowing, swelling of hands, feet, itching, rash. Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF): NSF has been reported as an acute or chronic in the evening of patients with kidney failure who received multiple gadolinium-containing contrast agents one after the other. If you experience changes in the color and/or thickness of the skin in any part of your body in the weeks following the MR examination, inform your doctor about it. Procedure of the examination: the expected duration of the MR examination may be 15-60 minutes, depending on the type of examination. Be prepared that the test involves noise exposure, which is related to the normal operation of the equipment. During the examination, you must lie motionless on the examination table in the position set by the operator. If you know that you have claustrophobia, inform the staff about this! If you feel that you cannot stand the test, report it in the manner described in the verbal information, and the test will be suspended. Actions after the test: after the test is completed, you will receive information about the method and options for releasing the findings. It is emphasized once again that the MR test is basically harmless and harmless, we draw your attention to the following: there is a very strong magnetic field in the MR examination room. Before entering here, we need to know if there are metal materials or certain instruments in your body that could interfere with the MR examination or pose a serious danger to you. For your own safety and that of the testing staff, please read carefully and answer the following questions accurately. Although the harmful effects of the examination on the fetus have not been proven, certain effects are not yet clear, so it is better to be careful. There are four characteristics of the MR examination that must be known directly before the examination is performed: - The narrow space: some patients have a feeling of confinement, this is most in the presence of the next of kin, it is terminated. It should not be forgotten that the patient is not locked in the examination room, and is in close contact with the staff (sound, video). This noise can last for 3-10 minutes. This is when the actual examination takes place, when you have to lie still.-Warming: inside the magnet it is 22-25 degrees warm, the examination room is air-conditioned.-The examination is relatively long: probably the most difficult part of the MR examination is that you have to lie still. Any movement of the patient greatly impairs the quality of the resulting images. you can request it at: University of Debrecen Clinical Center Kenézy Gyula Campus Central Radiology Diagnostics4031 Debrecen, Bartók B. 2-26.
