Most patients arrive at the Burn Intensive Care Unit of the Department of Dermatology after notification from the ambulance dispatcher via telephone.
The unit, and the operating theater team, if necessary, prepare to receive the patient (perform schock management, bathing, ventilation, lab tests, microbiological sampling, urgent surgical operation).
During working hours patients are admitted by the specialist responsible for the department, while out-of-hours by the physician on duty, under the supervision of the head of department and the burn specialist on duty, respectively.
