The physician asks the patient to sign an Informed Consent Form containing a description of the risks of the surgical procedure and its possible complications. During the informed consent interview the physician informs the patient about the most relevant details of the intervention.
Minor surgical interventions will usually be done in the outpatient examination room, where one of the local assistants will provide assistance and ensure that all hygiene regulations and professional requirements are met.
Outpatient surgeries may also be done in the operating room of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head-Neck Surgery. Patients examined in the outpatient examination room will be directed to present at the operating theater at the specified time (shown the way or taken there by the assistant), where patients will be provided care in line with the rules of the profession and the regulations to be met in the operating theater.
Preparation of patients waiting for operation: According to the protocol, patients are provided somatic preparation with medicines by the nurse on duty at the department the evening before the surgery, as well as the morning prior to the surgery after having received the instruction from the operating theater. After proper preparation patients are taken or transported to the operating theater by the designated surgical assistant.
Only properly anesthetized patients prepared in line with the nature of the intervention can be admitted for operation. The required examinations and treatments will be performed before hospitalization and surgery, in outpatient care, if possible.
If the ward physician or the anesthesiologist considers the condition of the patient not to be suitable for surgery, they will request additional examinations and treatment.
