Urgent patients can be admitted after a checkup examination in the Emergency Care Unit, or as pre-agreed by phone from other hospitals or clinics.
In urgent cases upon doctors’ recommendation or without it, patients can be admitted if they are in an immediately life-threatening condition, or will get into such if not admitted to hospital, or whose condition needs urgent attention in a hospital where failure to do so might lead to acute deterioration of the patients’ condition. Doctors are responsible for making a decision about urgency, which is done either in the outpatient specialist consultation or after clinic opening hours at the neurosurgery ward on the first floor. For this service patients need to register at the reception desk on the ground floor during outpatient clinic hours, and at other times at the nurses’ station on the first floor of the general neurosurgery ward, where a health professional will notify the duty doctor, who will state his opinion regarding urgency and take the necessary measures if the urgency is indeed confirmed.
