During working hours one of the specialist consultations is responsible for acute cases (those needing urgent attention). If a patient thinks they would need urgent medical attention (such as, they were injured, or have pain, or experience sudden vision loss) they should so inform the assistant at Main Reception or any assistant who summons patients.
Emergency treatments are decided on by the doctors. During duty hours it is the doctor working at the duty ambulatory unit who decides whether the eye specialist on call needs to be notified.
