Samples and requests for examinations in the institute are accepted on weekdays 7 AM- 3 PM. Samples and requisition forms are entered into the medic system. In the case of native samples (tissues removed during surgery) the amount of fixing material is checked and substituted if necessary. The registered samples are started (macroscopic processing, placing in cassettes, fixing) the next workday after receipt of the samples. Following automated dehydration the fixed tissues placed in the cassettes are embedded in paraffin and then hematoxylin-eosin staining of the slides can follow, which ensures that slides are appropriate for microscopic examination. We can perform further histochemical reactions if needed; the assessment of the slides is done by pathologists.
Aspiration cytology specialist consultation is available once per week (on Wednesdays) 9 AM – 2 PM. Patients coming with a requisition form are taken care of in the order of arrival. Patients delivered from inpatient wards or by the ambulance service are prioritized.
