Same-day Surgery Division - Other information concerning inpatient care

Patients are allowed to eat solid food in the evening before the operation and drink water or filtered juice until midnight, but they are not allowed to eat or drink in the morning.  On the basis of the previous consultation with the anesthesiologist, the patients have to take some of their medicines in the morning with a small amount of water, but they have to inform their physician about it during the admission process. Patients are asked to wash their whole body with soapy water at home in the morning and arrive at the hospital without make-up, facial paint, or nail polish. In case the patient is operated on the lower limb (leg), they are kindly asked to wash their legs thoroughly. Loose garments and low-heeled shoes are recommended. Avoid carrying valuables. Removable prostheses, contact lenses have to be removed just before the operation.

For the use of this form of care it is important that patients do not live or lodge too far from the hospital during the 48 hours after the procedure, considering average traffic the hospital should be accessible within a 30-minute-drive by car or ambulance.

Patients are asked to bring along the basic necessities for hospitalization: slippers, bathrobe, pajamas or night gown, a glass, etc.
To secure a calm environment for patients and undisturbed healing services, and to avoid infections, visitors are kindly asked to pay only a short visit and only one person at a time should be present in the ward. Patients are also asked to arrive with only one accompanying relative to facilitate their fellow patients’ and their own speedy recovery.

Parents or relatives of underage patients are allowed to be present. The relative helping the patient should not disturb healthcare provided for other patients and should follow the instructions of the medical staff.

Depending on their condition after the operation, patients are discharged at around 5-6 PM. In cases 24-hour care is required, we are unable to provide a meal (breakfast on the following day) for our patients.

Patients are required to arrange for their travel home. They should ensure they have an attending adult for the following night and that medical care is also available if needed.
