Neurology Clinic - Patient flow to inpatient wards, internal transfer

Some patients arrive by appointment, others are admitted from the emergency unit via our ambulatory unit or the ambulatory unit of the Emergency Clinic. During the admission procedure the ward doctor and the nurse Take the patient’s medical history, record their present complaints, the drugs they take on a regular basis, and potential drug allergies. Then the ward doctor thoroughly examines the patient and together with the Head of Ward decides on the order of necessary examinations and on a treatment plan. If the majority of the patient’s complaints and signs are not caused by neurological conditions, or a disease is suspected in the background that belongs to another medical field, medical consultation takes place and based upon the opinion of the consultant the patient may be transferred to another clinic. Whenever possible patients and their relatives are kept informed.

Effective treatment is greatly enhanced if patients come prepared together with their relatives for admission. Patients are requested to bring a list of medications they take, and their medical documents, images or CDs of images, if available.
